Today, You'll Dine With Me In Wadi Rum
In the midst of our jeep tour we met up with the cousin and brother of my guide Mustapha. The young man on the right is the Jeep driver. They were preparing lunch for a group of German hikers and we stopped to eat a stew and ‘shrub chai (drink tea) with them.
I'm a native of southern California. After attending USC, and pursuing a life of aimless partying in the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles, I was inspired to study archaeology after seeing the movie Lawrence of Arabia and reading 17 books about TE Lawrence. I did my MA and PhD at UCLA, where I also excavated in California, Syria, and Greece. Now I teach archaeology at Melbourne Uni, but I'll always be a native Angeleno at heart. I love pets and have had many, but my last 3 have been wire haired fox terriers.
